Accounting for Finance : Introduction

Much of the raw materials that we need in Corporate Finance and Valuation are comes from accounting statements. So we need some accounting fundamentals to get by. But as accounting is a very broad concept, and Finance dose not require us to become an accounting professionals, we will just focus on the ‘enough’ part of accounting.

This series of Accounting for Finance takes a different approach, instead of starting with what is accounting, what is accounting rules and debt and credit, we are going to start with an overview of through the financial statements, starting with the income statement, going on to the balance sheet, ending with the statement of the cash flows with each one we are going to talk about what we are trying to measure, and what accountants try sometimes to measure, with imperfections we will talk about how to use that data in the larger context of finance.
